(12v) Climate change and Religion

When a hurricane was approaching the Bahamas and now the US east coast, people were saying to pray that the hurricane will not be too devastated. If God exists, why should He help when humans continue to destroy the planet and refuse to spend sufficient money to reverse this? We will learn that repairing damage costs more in money but likely also lives and this is likely to change our behaviour. Reward and humans do not change and want more, punish or the threat of its existence and most people will change.

President Trump said to pray for the Bahamas. Indeed, we can pray for island countries that have little contributed to climate change but does it changes much as the damage is big? And now the storm is on its way to the East coast of the USA. Still, some people still don't recognise the urgency.

However, for those who believe in a deity and certainly the powerful who talk about a God who may punish but refuse to accept responsibility for what is happening in the world and thus refuse to change, if a God exists, why should He listen to us when humans continue to destroy anything He created? But, not all religious people are the same.

It's not only storms, also major fires at the Amazon and Arctic to name only the most spectacular ones that are often the result of humans who ignited them. Religious people know He warned humans to care for this planet that we rule but He predicted we would continue the destruction of animals, plants and the environment but even of humans to further increase profits. And thus, instead of saving us from destruction, we can conclude it seems He starts to help us to destroy so the religious powerful can claim they are right that we can't stop what is happening whereby they claim this is because humans defend everyone's rights to live as they wish. These disasters and their consequences such as destruction of infrastructure and food as well as diseases and the resulting violence may reduce the number of people and thus save our planet. Also looting happens often after such disasters; I think people should be allowed to take food from shops as otherwise a lot of it will rot while governments can later compensate shop owners so people can eat and drink, very likely reducing the risk of violence while rescue efforts such as distribution of food and water can start as this takes off slowly.

Although strong winds, not comparable with category 3, 4 or 5 storms

But, this is also as climate change scientists at universities, action groups but even fossil fuel companies explained may happen. And school children who protested on the streets to take action as they see things are going wrong. This can also explain why many people go mad at a religious level. Indeed, know nature's laws and predict the future and watch it happening. No deity will change these laws or science becomes worthless and thus also any actions from humans to change our behaviour to create a better world. Still, as religious people claim, these events may also create the right conditions to be saved - if we may believe a God exists. Indeed, imagine billions of kilos of ice that melts on the poles, may this even result in earthquakes when the balances are broken? And we need some fires to balance the removal of CO2 by plants from the sky.

Further, we created such an unequal world that these destructions as a result of climate change likely also destroy the properties of the wealthy and famous and thus not only that of the poor although the latter experience first what may happen everywhere; indeed, this article explains better than I can how inequality and (the absence of actions against) climate change are linked.

Indeed, in storm prone areas houses are built to withstand violent storms but not the violence of the storms they experience now; in other regions houses are less prepared for heavy storms and thus less violent storms still destroy. But, also in regions without these storms, strong winds are sometimes sufficient to fan large fire. Or heatwaves destroy food. Therefore, it is in the interest of everyone to invest in a better world. And for this, hiding our heads in sand to pretend nothing is happening is not a way forward; accepting what may happen is important so actions can be undertaken to limit the damage.

Possible actions to be taken by the rich western world

Indeed, we may learn that's it's better to spend money to convert to a clean energy and environmental-friendly world than face what we now experience that is likely to be much costlier than investments in green energies. Still, at this moment certain powerful politicians and industrialists still try to convince us that we don't need to change or when we change this means energy companies build huge energy infrastructures so we need to continue to buy their energy. Other powerful people think to benefit when things go wrong. However, people may get fed up with people who only think about themselves and not the common good.

Rescuers in extreme weather

And as in the video in which Royal Bahamas Police Force officer Butler warns people so they know that, in case people ignore the advice to move to saver areas, than they should not expect help when the situation is too dangerous for emergency workers to go out while the area may simply not be reachable when streets are blocked. Thus, those who refuse to accept they need to move away from the danger zone are warned and no-one should risk their life to save people who refuse to listen to advise. After the passage of the storm (or in case of other disasters), emergency workers should go out to save anyone in troubles. That's obvious as it is their job and thus duty, together with volunteers  after such emergencies.
