Trump versus Biden: candidates in US's presidential electing, white versus white

A long article about the divisions in US's society where for centuries white Christian males were power and decided who could rise or be imprisoned. No longer.

Concerning the male dominated society, journalists mostly refer to Mr Biden's choice of Senator Kamala Harris as running mate as potentially the first black Vice-President in case Mr Biden becomes the next president. But, that is no longer really remarkable because a black man, i.e. Mr Obama, became even president. No, what really matters is that she is not only black but also an intelligent woman, someone who may increase Mr Biden's chances. Compared this with Mr McCain's choice of Mrs Palin who destroyed his chances to become president. And thus it may be the first time such a high positon for a non-man with the possibility that she becomes the first black FEMALE president in case Mr Biden dies, a possibility at his age. Thus, for misogynistic people, Mr Biden must survive. Or, they may vote for Mr Trump to prevent her rise.

Will Mr Biden be able to heal America? I doubt it as he will have to do what president Trump says in case he wants to tackle the Covid-19 crisis: lock people in their house to enforce quarantine, use force so people wear a mask. Indeed, those often white people who refuse simple rules to stop a virus may force the country they love to act against them and thus fasten the decline of white power. As many fear, even a real civil war may be a possibility, whether Mr Trump or Mr Biden wins and one side or another refuses to accept defeat.

I think only a person from outside the current establishment who understands both Mr Trump voters and Liberal voters may bring peace again. That means a person who doesn't ridicule Trump voters and does not oppose everything president Trump said just like Trump and his supporters oppose everything president Obama did, resulting in polarisation.

That includes to accept a large section of society is angry because they lost jobs when companies closed and relocated outside the USA. Or they have low paid jobs as they compete with migrants who accept to work for low wages that are still higher than in their country of origin so migrants are unwelcome competition for jobs while well-paid city workers celebrate lowpaid jobs that result in higher profits for companies and thus higher dividends but also impossible competition for local companies. Mrs Clinton is hated by many Trump supporters, not because she is successful because the American dream is to grow your own business, employ employees and become gradually rich but because she is too close with city workers who are seen as people who become rich without actually doing much for the economy except by telling companies to increase profits for investors.

Also the recovery of the trade balance with China is important as also previous presidents complained about this, partly as it destroys jobs in America but also to prevent China becomes too powerful that results in instability in the region and with other superpowers.

Further, countries like N Korea should accept international law and stop the development of weapons of mass destruction in return from better relations or face aggression with destruction of those weapons and rockets.

Also concerning Europe,  although the USA and EU members are allies, each country should contribute correctly to NATO or accept less protection from other countries.

President Trump told how it was and reached certain agreements but I fear he can't stop and thus may go too far. Further, his handing of the coronavirus was really a disaster, not at the start when he closed the country but by not closing states so people could continue to spread the virus from one state to another.

Thus, someone else is needed to heel a divided country. Someone who is able to convince those who feel they are forgotten that a moderate listens and but also can act. Unfortunately but president Obama was too slow in his first two years when he had a majority as he wanted to compromise with opponents who despised him for his skin colour so he achieved too little after which many at the losing end voted for Mr Trump as he may be able to deliver while wealthy Republicans saw this but had no other choice than to accept him. Mr Biden, seen by many as a man of the establishment who is considered to be a socialist and thus unacceptable. Indeed, Mr Trump, many voted for him because he spoke on many issues as a communist who understands ordinary people with problems but who is a Conservative or right-winger on issues such as abortion, immigration, race, fossil fuels, energy and climate change. A new person with ideas may be the healing factor but, I think not yet.

Interesting to see who will win the presidential electing and whether the result will be accepted.

What is authoritarian?

Not everyone will agree with the article but the past years, Trump supporters defended and encouraged aggressive language and even violence, while President Trump didn't calm them, on the contrary. Thus, I think it is correct that Republicans moved more towards an authoritarian party, also in power. Still, also aggressive language and ridicule can be read on social media by Trump opponents so we can conclude there were few efforts to reach out towards each other. Now after the election it is probably too late to do it differently.

So, according the study, the Democratic party didn't move much from its position as a democratic party. But, what can we expect when Mr Biden may become president and he wants to introduce stricter coronavirus rules while a large section of Americans will refuse to follow those rules? Will he accept and thus follow Trump's way of allowing people to choose for themselves so the virus will continue to spread? Or, will he enforce these rules so police and maybe even the army will be involved and thus limit people's freedoms? Does that mean the Democratic party may rise in the statistics away from being a real democratic party towards more authoritarian but one that takes responsibility?

Indeed, how people react to government policies partly dictates how politicians react. As president Trump allowed the virus to travel throughout the USA and spoke about a dictatorship the Democrats want to install, it will be difficult for Mr Biden in case he becomes the next president.

The question is: what is autocratic? Enforce laws and rules or as Trump did, allow lawlessness while encourage aggressive behaviour by blaming opponents? The second may be worse. But, he will claim, he acted against BLM protests while Democrats allowed lawlessness. Still, defending police officers who sit minutes on the neck of people during arrests while they lay handcuffed on the ground is not leadership while demanding an investigation is. Thus, not only enforcing laws is important, also enforcing good laws is crucial in a good functioning democracy while enforcing bad laws, i.e. laws that are unfair as they benefit only a small group of people is authoritarian. Sometimes those who seem to be authoritarian may be so in the eye of criminals. Yes, in the USA it is a difficult balance because bringing order during riot is good government for many.
