Turkey versus Syria - No joke
Europe should not only criticize Turkey for invading
the north of Syria to create as Turkey claims safe areas as this should have
been done before so Syrians didn't need to escape their country. However, it's
a pity Turkish President Erdogan considers the Kurds as enemies while the Kurds
prevented ISIS and Assad's army to come close to Turkey's borders.
Further, we should have sent much earlier judges to
judge European ISIS fighters at the place where they committed human right
violations.
It also demonstrates why it's important to invest in
modern military equipment that can be operated by professional military instead
of an army of soldiers. But, Europe prefers to battle with each other over a
country that wants to leave.
What the EU could
expect happened as tension
between Kurds and Turkey are high since years: Turkey has over 3,6 million
Syrian refugees within its borders and similar as the EU, the country wants
them out. Thus, the north
of Syria close to Turkey is the obvious choice to take to return these
refugees for which Turkey
doesn't accept any criticism. But, I accept, this is mainly
to fight against the Kurds while the Kurds kept the Syrian army and ISIS
out of Turkey. Indeed, the Kurds were allies of the West to destroy ISIS
whereby we don't have to go back to WWII to claim we
can abandon and betray them as this will cost lives and result in a new
refugee crisis. Just as the Syrian citizens, the Kurds are used in these
"power games". Some also fear a possible intervention by the NATO as
Turkey is a NATO ally and in case it gets into troubles. However, as Turkey
doesn't defend itself against aggression by the Syrian Kurds but instead
started to fight against the Kurds that also weakens its own defences against
ISIS and Assad's army, than the NATO doesn't need to help Turkey if it gets
into troubles. Still, Turkey is now partially doing what the EU did to keep
refugees outside its territory although in a less civilised way, i.e. create an
area for refugees outside its territory that replace the local population.
Politicians
and diplomats also talk about what to do and how to trial the European terrorists who
fought with ISIS so they brought terror upon the
Syrians, Iraqis, Kurds and further away. Instead that Europe continues to
discuss this problem and thus does little, I think we should have sent some of
our judges to assists local judges to trial and sentence correctly these ISIS
fighters and according local laws. Indeed, if the locals decide they deserve
the dead penalty for the atrocities they
committed than who are Europeans to condemn people who suffered their terror?
Now these fighters may be sent back to the West or escape or even be liberated maybe by the
Kurds to revenge the Western betrayal as it seems the Kurds already reached a deal with Assad
with the help of Russia so they escape trial and continue their terror. Indeed,
betray those who were willing to sacrifice their lives and fear revenge. But, children of ISIS fighters should be brought back to safety so they can be correctly educated as they are innocent to
the stupidity of their parents.
Further, ISIS and
Assad's army are likely to return to northern Syria where the Turks focus their
attention to kill Kurds. Always the same connection
between ISIS and Assad as if ISIS is a secret part of Assad's army to scare
people into thinking that Assad is moderate and thus preferable so he can
remain as Syria's president.
Now Europe protests
but as it does little to help Syrian refugees, including the creation of safe
areas and no fly zones to protect civilians against attacks by Assad's or any
other army as we did
before in northern Iraq against Saddam's army, others take control of the
situation while Europe seems to be able to anger everyone involved, from the
Americans, Turkish, Kurds and of course the Syrian government but also refugees
as Europe doesn't help refugees sufficiently while doesn't condemn those who
attack.
Yes, the biggest
mistake was that the West
drew red lines to prevent that Assad would use weapons of mass destruction
against his people while the West that includes the US and Europe didn't act
when Assad crossed those red lines when again he used gas against his
citizens so Russia saw weakness and decided it was possible to help Assad
remain in power. Now we should not anger Ankara with our criticism when Europe
doesn't do much except asking others to solve Europe's problems such as keeping
refugees out of Europe. Those who want to go into politics sometimes need to
take decisions such as sufficient investments in defenses and acting when
needed or troubles may be larger than when we did something. And thus we should
have done something or not have mentioned red lines. Further, it is not because
lefties don't want to invest in defenses that protect us from outside
aggression that we need to listen. That doesn't mean starting aggression
against others. But, these crises also illustrate the failure of the UN and the
urgent need to reform it to abolish the veto right as that blocks the
possibility to act although I acknowledge it should be reformed in such a way
that major countries have a bigger decision power than minor countries but
without given certain countries a near monopoly so they need to convince others
of the need to act.
It is
also possible President Erdogan
made a deal with Assad in order to be able to attack the Kurds but this may
backfire. A pity but prophesies and not only from Islam but also Christianity and others inform that
the oldest civilization will one day become uninhabitable, completely destroyed
by war as seems to be happening. Indeed, this distrust between the different parties results in more war and dead.
