Spain's latest election show there is hope for the future

Image
Published on FB 21/07/2023, days before the Spanish elections Maria Guardiola said she only had her word, but later she said " on reflection, "my word isn't as important as the future of the people of Extremadura ”." Her original words were delivered in a speech in which she tore into the far-right Vox party for its denial of gender-based violence, its demonisation of migrants and its attacks on the LGBTQ+ community. Remember the Bible where the devil tells Jesus on top of a hill "bow for me, and I give you power over all that you see".  But people are not surprise as her party's leader cannot keep his own words such as when he said that the largest party should lead the government, and that was another party. And thus he forced her to change her words. And she agreed, instead of holding on to what she believed, so now she can lead the government.  And thus slowly Europe may move in the direction of extreme right that is anti-woke as they want the rig...

(12ah) Climate change - It seems increasingly inevitable

Image
Friday, June 17, 2022 . A number of the Guardian articles about the state of our planet, not only about climate change but also about people who kill other humans who only want to report on the state of our planet so we understand the destruction. I published the articles on my Facebook in June 2022 while added more recent articles in this post. This bring us to the conclusion that activism as usual such as meeting important people is no longer sufficient. But, what is the best way forward as any actions such as those by Extinction Rebellion (ER) are condemned by many people while a war by Russia draws even more money to fossil fuel and more general to energy companies? Two men murdered There is a war on nature that took the lives of two men  in Brazil: Dom Phillips, a journalist who travelled together with indigenous Bruno Pereira to show the destruction of the rainforest whereby plants, animals and even humans who live in the forests and depend on it, are killed.  Mr Philli...

(12af) Bill Gates, David Attenborough and Climate Change

Image
Bill Gates Bill Gates . Such an authority. He discusses e.g. climate change as I do and he is interviewed while I am losing friends. But, as my mind goes on and on, turning round in circles, I too must write this down so my brain concentrate on something and to avoid I become mad. And yes, it is also important that people show that they agree with investments away from fossil fuels to prevent those who are opposed have the loudest voice and win the argument. Thus, I recognise Mr Gates has major opposition from among others: those who oppose vaccination (in which he plays an important role) and deny climate change is real as for many the consequences are too big to accept while they often don't want to pay for it and think that reinvesting in old solutions is cheaper and more profitable while building a new nuclear plant costs billions of euros  although smaller local units may be possible and for space travel on condition we re-use space shuttles; those who don't mind climate ...

(12ad) Reversal of digital electricity meter is not allowed. But, why not use more than one?

Image
Belgium's Constitutional Court reached a verdict that the government can't introduce legislation that allows the reversal of digital electricity meter when people release electricity produced by their solar panels to the grid . The result: people have no return on their investment so fewer people may invest to install solar panels; some think it was better not to have invested in the future energy production . This while the energy sector already convinced politicians about the uncertainty of the electricity market while investments in renewables by consumers were too expensive so a punishment of €100 was introduced on top of the electricity bill ; indeed, when the energy sector wants to build a new nuclear reactor plant than they can't have it that people produce their own electricity. A typical judgement to protect energy companies. The motivation of their decision according the article in the first link: De Vreg was tegen die verlenging [van de reversal van de elektrici...

(12ac) Greta Thunberg, a towering teenager whose message angers adults

Image
A film has been made about Greta Thunberg , Swedish climate activist. Like her or not but one has to admit she was a towering figure during the past years who managed to mobilise worldwide people to tell those in power that they don't want to earn even more when that means they die on a dead planet but instead protesters informed people in power they have the approval to act to reduce more damage to the environment and halt climate change. Below some commentary and extracts from the article.  Remember the UN summit in New York when an angry Ms Thunberg who says she is rarely angry, told delegates:  " People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing. We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairytales about eternal economic growth. How dare you! ".  Indeed, eternal growth isn't possible because it results in greed to have always more that drives people crazy and destroys as I discussed before while economies need to be c...

Buildup of Tensions in Societies Throughout the World

Image
We notice worldwide tensions are growing within societies. This is mainly as a result of growing inequality but also other factors are involved such as a virus and climate change that destroys crops so people start to migrate as essentials become rarer and thus more expensive compared with what people earn. The result is likely that increasingly people in places where the migrants move to will demand a closing of their borders. Let's discuss. Financial crisis 2008-2009 While inequality was growing as a result of what many people earned versus rising costs of products, this accelerated when the financial crisis was organised just over ten years ago. As a result, people lost work and many even their home such as in the USA so poverty increased although the rich became richer. But, while house prices dropped because many flats and houses became available, those with money were able to buy them cheaper and sell or rent them out to make money when property prices rose again. The problem...
