(12u) More intense upwards airflows in a warming planet

Image
Indeed, a warning planet likely results in stronger upward airflows and maybe less rain as what falls evaporates or is taken upwards again by these airflows. The result may be larger hail stones when smaller ones are carried upwards again and again and increase in size and weight. Prophesies mention they may become as heavy as 50 kg. Indeed, we're told one day we're able to explain the science behind some prophecies. Those prophecies also inform that we will continue, and certainly those in positions of power who know what they are doing, to worship what is dead such as gold, oil and gas, wood, in short continue to destroy our planet. Clouds can be amazing Still, they also inform we will change for the better, not only in relation to the environment but also with other people with growing powers of computing and AI that will ease our lives, help in science but also know what we do to stop criminals. That's why religious people want that evil happens as they h...

Influencing our destiny - and then it gets destroyed so it has to reshape itself - Part 3

Image
Gaia theory To me, the previous two articles already demonstrate that the Gaia theory may exist although there are still many sceptics (e.g. New Scientist 26 October 2013, " Gaia: the verdict is ... ", p. 30-31). The Earth, animals and plants interact with each other to try to reach an balance (we don't undergo the system passively while the system adjust to our changes) and when the equilibrium is disturbed then there are consequences. But we should also consider the age of the Earth, and thus not only what it does to individuals in a short period (from the perspective of Earth: what is a thousand years?). The system works as long as there is an equilibrium so that what comes replaces what goes. The dinosaurs may have become too powerful and this may have led to their collapse, helped with natural disasters while smaller animals and plants survived as they were better able to adapt to the new environment. Scientists (and many people) fear this may happen soon wi...

(12k) Less quick warming - a blessing?

New Scientist (The head is still on, 7 December 2013) describes how it seems the increase of the temperate of our planet has slowed and thus climate change deniers are celebrating because they can now claim they were right while scientists were wrong. Scientists on the other hand wonder why this happens. Together with climate change scientists, I am not so sure we should celebrate this already. Indeed, oceans are warming deeper and surface temperate is rising that may result in heavier storms as we recently experienced in the Philippines but also in Europe whereby the UK is already facing for about one month one storm after another that were so violent that parts of the UK felt in the sea at the beginning of December. Energy is used to change systems, e.g. to melt ice and thus energy used to melt the ice will have no immediate effect on the temperate. In addition, ice that melts is cold water that needs to warm, and again, warming means removing energy from the surrounding a...

(12g) So hot and dry these summer months

Image
After a cold spring with strong cold winds, we have now in Belgium and other parts of Europe a very hot and dry summer. On Friday, 26/07/2013 we had a record day for this year in Belgium with temperatures above 35°C and a very hot wind. It was fun being at work where there is air-conditioning (although further aiding climate change). At the end of the day, very heavy thunders and lightning were predicted. But it was a beautiful evening (although in the afternoon it seemed as if the weather was changing but the clouds disappeared again) while they came the day after although with not that much rain. Also today was quite a warm day and thunderstorms are predicted but although there were some clouds in the late afternoon, they again disappeared and at this moment there is quite some (cooler) wind but I can still see the stars, thus open air. Dry lightning can cause fires when it touches the ground. Therefore, is it possible that when it is too hot, possible rain evaporates even befo...
