Decline of socialism in the Western world

Image
Wednesday, 01/05/2019, labour day. The day of the left, socialists and communists. As a response the Catholic invented their own labour day, Rerum Novarum. Indeed, divide and rule. Regularly, people discuss the reasons for the decline of socialist parties in many countries. And in the countries where they don't decline, mainly in developing countries, opponents do whatever is possible to remove the left from power, even when this means to impoverish the country, so often the rulers become dictators to remain in power and then of course there are justified reasons they can be removed. Still, I can think of a few reasons why socialism in the West declines (I repeat, my opinion). I don't mention communism because that is/was an extreme form that in normal situation is unlikely to become a main party although a comparison with extreme right shows politicians don't understand why they're opposed to extremism. Socialists often have links with unions and ...

International Women's day - Still needed

Image
Friday, 08/03/2019 (but also Saturday in some shops) was international women's day. Indeed, still an important day as long as women have fewer chances (in many countries around the world) and earn less for the same work. It is partially understandable that fewer women are at top positions because mainly men progressed in the past who don't want to sacrifice their own career in favour of women. However, the difference in wages is difficult to understand as one may assume that each company has at least guidelines what people earn in a certain position, certainly at the start of their career. But yes, in the private sector, men may ask quicker a (bigger) increase in wages or threaten to go to another company. If men are valued higher or are seen as more ambitious because they are more aggressive in their demand for higher wages, than indeed, companies will agree with higher wages for men than for women. But, as companies start to experience that women are equal and sometimes bet...

(18d) Battle between different coloured people

Current situation The troubles in Ferguson show something is seriously wrong. Again a black unarmed man was killed by a white policeman. Who was to blame, I can't say but the testimony of the policeman who killed him seems to indicate he was afraid of the black man (with or without reason, I can't say). But what he says already indicates something is seriously wrong when indeed white people feel threatened by black people (men). Although the white policeman who killed (by accident, out of fear?) will not be prosecuted, we cannot be sure that the family will not face an enquiry while any possible prosecution for expressing their anger may cause the gunpowder to explode. And this was not the first and probably not the last dead black man. Also in NY a black man was killed by mainly white policemen for what seems is a major crime: selling cigarettes on the streets and as a consequence new violence erupted across the USA. If police, each time someone argues with them (wit...

Protest against gay marriage in France and elsewhere

Image
Last Saturday, it seems that according to the police at least 70,000 people took to the streets in Paris while there were other demonstrations in the cities of Lyon, Toulouse and Marseille. The protests were against proposals to allow gay marriage. Those on the streets of France included Catholic groups and other backers of traditional family rights and I read many wore pink in a cynical way because it is the colour gay people use to remember the colour Hitler used to recognise gay people so he could destroy them. It also seems many mayors are against the proposal to allow every person in France (and eventually on this planet) to marry people they love. And this in a country that allegedly separated state and church more than 200 years ago because of the corruption within both of them. Even the pope urged bishops to speak against gay marriage in civil law, although in a polite manner because he claims that gays are a threat to family (as if the pope and priests know much about star...
