(16e) Mr Tony Blair received knighthood. Many disagree

Image
Old UK PM Blair received a knighthood , even the highest honor possible in the UK, handed out by HRH Queen Elisabeth II. I think he deserves it for his premiership and he should have received it earlier. However, I don't think he should receive this honor all these years after his premiership because during those years he made bad decisions such as being adviser for questionable regimes to say it mildly, such as to the regime of  Kazakhstan . Although some British defend the honor  that is given to Mr Blair, many more, both many journalists  and ordinary people , oppose that he is rewarded this knighthood, an opposition mainly for his involvement in the second US-Iraq war, better known as Gulf war of which I still remember the discussions; but also because he forgot his roots and joined the rich. PM Blair decided about wars against dictators and terrorists while people claim he did it for the fossil fuels, and not to get rid of monsters, during which British soldiers di...

(16d) Chilcot report and PM Blair

The Chilcot report is severe for Mr Blair about his decision to go to war against Saddam Hussein to destroy his WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) and topple the regime. The report says many errors were made, and certainly the unpreparedness of the post-war period was unacceptable. Still, I think PM Blair is sincere when he says he wanted to get rid of dictator Saddam Hussein and his WMD. Indeed, that dictator was pure evil, killing tens of thousands of his own people, including with the use of gas and starting wars with neighbours such as Iran and Kuwait, resulting in more than a million people killed while supporting terrorists outside his own country. In the end, people would have risen against him and this would probably have been with disastrous effects as people have done in Syria against their own mass murderer with disastrous effects. PM Blair and US President Bush Jr went to war because they claimed and still do that they wanted to destroy Saddam's WMD and liberate...

(16c) Mr Tony Blair: The present - And what about the future?

Although I never recognised Tony Blair as a real socialist but more as someone in the middle, he is starting to move too far in the wrong direction because of his worship of the powerful. Ones he saw the ugly head of wealth and power, he started to change and as long as he refuses to acknowledge this he can no t correct himself and may move further in that direction, away from the people who ones admired him. If only he stopped praising those who bankrupted the world and oppress others. Indeed, one can be happy for people who are successful in life but not for people who make 'mistakes' and continue making these 'mistakes' because they benefit from their 'errors' and aren't punished for making them, while they refuse to accept they should change their own behaviour instead of always blaming others who have much less and demand others behave well such as paying taxes or they should be punished. And his job as adviser for what others call dictators is quite ...

(16b) Tony Blair: His final years as PM - Foreign policies gone wrong for many people

During his final years as PM, the 'war-on-terror' started (and still continues) whereby the attacks in New York and Washington were game-changers. Before this tragedy, there were interventions in wars such as in Kosovo and Sierra Leone that were celebrated by many but now PM Blair felt the need to start war to liberate people and remove dictators whereby there was the impression lies were told to justify war and to be important and this changed the mood of the people towards him. He also started to believe that police should be able to detain people for up to 90 days without charge while I think politicians should be able to trust judges so they can see evidence and can determine the length that people are locked up. Even torture was started to be used and although I understand this evolution as politicians tried to protect the general public after the attacks on the USA (09/11/2001) but also Madrid (11/03/2004 in which 191 people died) and London (07/07/2005 in which 52 peo...

(16a) Mr Tony Blair - The past

Mr Tony Blair , such an imposing figure. Just over twenty years ago he rose to power and became one of the most celebrated politicians in the UK, that is until the Iraq war destroyed his legacy for many people. Here, I list what I remember that were his important achievements but also his present work and why I think people no longer like him and how he could response by becoming a low-key but still important figure. However, some defend his good policies . The past and his achievements After becoming New Labour leader, Tony Blair won three elections and for a good reason: he had good ideas and came after a long period with the Tories in power (and their time in power was so disastrous that even after more than a decade in opposition they still didn't manage to regain a majority and had to form a coalition government). Only because someone wanted his job, PM Blair had to stop being the elected British PM (although maybe there was a secret deal that needed to be honoured)...
