(3f) De Drie Machten moeten elkaar kunnen beoordelen

Image
See here for English.

(3f) The Three Powers must be able to judge each other

Image
Introduction  A Slovakian man  was taken from an airplane by police just before departure, he resisted, among other by hitting his head against a wall until he bled, so the police had to use force to keep the person under control.  Afterwards the person died.  A video of the event became public 2,5 years after the event happened.  Questions must be answered.  The video also shows how a policewoman delivers the Hitler salute.  Doesn't that justify at least an immediate layoff and even a dismissal since Nazis have no place in the police? Questions that need to be answered  Why was the man aggressive or did he become violent when he was removed from the plane?  Did the officers misbehave or should it be better described what to do if someone opposes aggressively?  Indeed, sometimes people die and this needs to be investigated, especially if there were video footage although apparently those in higher positions were not aware of this as the ...

(15c) Mr Obama and (dis)trust in governments

Image
Indeed, governments should aim that people trust them to avoid anger. For me, the way to do this is not by blocking contend on the internet but via openness by governments whereby they should respond to misinformation while the information they publish can then be checked by professionals and the general public, including opponents. Of course, hateful messages that aim to hurt people should be blocked but with an explanation why. And thus, blaming Russia for the victories of Mr Trump or Brexit is (I think) rubbish because there was sufficient information on the internet and media and via direct contact between people with discussions amongst politicians, experts and the general public so most people were sufficiently informed to vote as they did; this is confirmed by the fact that opinion on these (and other) matters changes only little. Only when access to information is blocked is it understandable that people think as their leaders indoctrinate them to do as they don't have oth...

Energy: Electrabel versus Minister of Economy in Belgium.

There is at this moment a war between the Belgian government, i.e. Mr Vande Lanotte (Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Economy) en Electrabel. Here I write what I understand of the dispute because it involves quite a lot. Electrabel, a company ones owned by the government but now part of Suez-GDF, makes and delivers electricity to companies and the general public. For historical reasons (Electrabel was the only company in Belgium to make electricity owning all infrastructure), the company is still the largest company in Belgium to make electricity and uses a number of methods, including nuclear energy while the decisions are now made in France. Since the law of 31 December 2003 it knows that the nuclear energy in Belgium will be reduced from 2015 onwards until the last nuclear reactor is closed by 2025 (see website ), thus it had a minimum of 12 years to invest in alternative energy. However, over these years the company invested insufficiently in new and clean energy because it ho...

(05d) PM Merkel is against Eurobonds - I agree to some extend

I'm having again Internet after almost a three months break. Finally, back to the world. Many European politicians (and certainly economists) want to introduce Eurobonds and as I understand it, the EU may take some (most, all?) of the debts of poorer European countries and spread it over Europe so that both strong and weak shoulders will carry the problems. Of course, it is only understandable that Europe wants to help countries that are in need (as it should do because they are members). But, as the German PM Angela Merkel (a woman who thinks differently than most men and wants other solutions then the usual ones), I am against spreading debts because it will weaken every country that take some of the debts (it is similar to banks using savings of people to pay off their debts so that when people want their money the banks can't give it anymore (I wonder whether rating agencies threat some countries well so those countries are prepared to take responsibilities to save count...
