Theresa May calls for immigration based on skills and wealth

PM May's plan to allow immigration based on skills and wealth was to be expected . After the two golden decades that started under PM Major and continued under PM Blair, the decline continues. Under these two PMs, people from poorer areas were stimulated to follow higher education and to achieve this major investments were done in education in general, including new schools. Also major investments at universities resulted in collaborations with overseas universities, many foreigners (including from poorer countries) moving to the UK and top research. Also free healthcare via the NHS whereby major investments resulted in good equipped (new) hospitals, good healthcare professionals and reduced waiting times. Also a house for everyone was promoted and thus people could buy a property, improve it and sell it naturally more expensive to buy a larger house and repeat the above. This resulted in more expensive and now difficult to buy properties, certainly when houses and flats were s...

(15b) Europe and immigrants

As a result of increased immigration into Europe, certain Europeans are starting to show their real face. On the one hand, European countries and the EU are urging Turkey to open its borders so more Syrian migrants can enter Turkey to escape war but on the other hand, Europe is doing everything possible to close its own borders, even threatening own member states such as Greece with removal from the Schengen zone if the country is unable to keep the refugees (= people who escape war) out of Europe. If Greece is removed, Europe will achieve what it fears, i.e. that the immigration crisis may result in the end of the Schengen zone while already individual EU countries decided to close their borders to prevent migrants from entering their territory. Some countries don’t even seem to be able to accept that Greece, one of the poorest countries in Europe, isn't able to close its border (without using violence). Still, although Europe forced heavy austerity on Greece, it is amazing t...

(15a) Immigrants: Afghans and Afghanistan

Image
Some months ago, there were some troubles between the Belgian police and immigrants from Afghanistan who fear they may soon be deported to their country. At least one person had to return although he was good integrated while a number of Belgian friends tried to help him stay. Many of the Afghans said they had to flee the violence of the taliban , only to see the Belgian police using the same tactics. Probably they exaggerated as the taliban would have shot them at the spot if they dared to demonstrate, the reason why these people fled their country. They also walked some marches and set up a camp near the PM's home town to be heard. At this moment, they can re-apply individually to have a re-investigation of their asylum request. I can very well understand why these people exaggerated the situation in Belgium (although it may not be helpful) as I can imagine their fear for having to return to Afghanistan , certainly after most if not all of the Western armies will have ...
