Vietnam war and assassination of leaders

Image
I heard an interesting discussion on the radio about the Vietnam war. The war started much earlier than we normally think and this as a war to free Vietnam from the French colonizer in the 1950s. Because the French had big losses, they asked the Americans for help. They helped financially and by giving weaponry and advise. But, after wrong advise, the French suffered a major defeat and negotiations started between France and Vietnam. The result was that the country was split into a northern part under brutal communist rule and a southern part where the Americans supported a crazy local ruler. The result was that in both parts, people suffered very much because: the north wanted to install a regime based on Stalin's rule in the Soviet Union and who is known for his aversion for human rights; the south was ruled by a person who enriched himself at the expense of his own people, was Roman Catholic in a mainly Buddhist country but was also notoriously anti-communists so he ...

(13d) Anti Brexit march, a huge success

Image
One million join march against Brexit as Tories plan to oust May Reality Very understandable, one million people march against Brexit because they are afraid of what may be a future outside the EU. Yes, I too would have voted against leaving the EU as its formation brought not only peace but also prosperity to all countries that joined. Still, often the EU did as the UK requested (such as no euro, no Schengen and even British police who is allowed to check people in Belgium and France who want to travel to the UK, English as main language, a neoliberalism and even when the UK are leaving the EU, the EU still follows UK's lead of enforcing austerity on one of its members just as the UK enforces it on its own people), and yet a large section of (mainly) the English remain angry that the UK joined the EU and blames the EU for what the UK does in the UK. And thus, now a large section of British society shows they want to remain. No further comments Theory And thus, y...

(12s) Climate change requires more solidarity and less reverting upon ourselve

Image
Indeed, as the Guardian article mentions, climate change actions mean people work together to survive the transition to what may become a new world. Religious people and scientists agree that the world is changing such as melting of ice on poles and glaciers that changes the appearance of the world. And while I think everyone must work together, others such as certain religious people only want to help like-minded people: the same skin colour, religion, political and economic ideologies that can even worsen the situation. Thus, while I think investments in farming and new economies such as clean energy but also conservationism should receive priority, others think it is better that our wealth is protected while the most greedy persons selloff what we have, often because it's not theirs so they have the money (that what we can't eat and drink) while society can pay foreign companies and countries as they buy the technology we developed. As written in the article, standi...

(13c) NATO contributions and President de Gaulle

European countries NATO contribution On Saturday I heard the start of a radio discussion. It was about the US that agreed after WWII to look after Europe's security (and founded the NATO whereby the UK as co-founder was the second largest contributor after the USA). But, already short after the end of WWII the USA complained that Europe contributed too little financially towards its own protection while it was one of the main critics of the USA's policies. Just as President Obama was not very happy with Europe'scontribution , now President Trump says it's enough and Europe must contribute more or lose its protection, one of the reasons why many Europeans hate President Trump as this policy will cost money. But, as before, Europe remains the USA's largest critic, even when Europe was the origin of the most evil periods in human history. Compare this with the US's civil war in which people died because Americans fought to abolish slavery. President de Gaull...

Extremism and nationalism - no good ideologies

Image
Attack on two mosques in New Zealand by a white supremacist are disgusting and most Westerners condemn those who did this while they also condemn those who spread hatred against other people, i.e. the extreme right. But, we should also recognise that people from other backgrounds need to be educated in order that they recognise that everyone deserves respect in our multicultural society. On the other hand, Muslims still don't seem to understand why this happened and may happen again. People in the West become angry with Muslims, and rightly so. Remember 09/11 in New York and other attacks in Brussels, Paris, London, Spain to name only a few in the West while hate preachers preach in certain mosques to attack the West. Don't forget all those mad people who kill in the name of Allah in Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq and Pakistan to name only a few Muslim countries. Thus yes, Muslims, accept that many Muslims but also Westerners die because of actions by hardliners of your own reli...

Diversity is the key

Image
I agree with the message of M(ooh)ZAIK on this poster: diversity is key .  Diversity means everyone has equal chances and is involved in projects according their talents. This way, fewer people will be unhappy. Being accepted for jobs without having to change name will reduce anger by many youngsters from migrant backgrounds who turn inwards to their own group and even to extremism as they feel they are not understood and want to be heard (but in the wrong way). But also youngsters from here are angry. Some because some think migrants are taking their jobs while they can also be angry because jobs are insufficiently paid, certainly compared with older employees of whom many can no longer keep up with the speed of changes in society and thus can be considered as overpaid, certainly compared with youngsters who understand much better the new techniques and less the older techniques that are indeed slowly disappearing. Youngsters are angry many of the older generatio...

The UN is no solution as peacekeepers in this world

‘Moral obligation and political imperative’ to support Syria on path to peace: Guterres https://news.un.org/feed/view/en/story/2019/03/1034841 “It is a moral obligation and a political imperative for the international community to support Syrians to unite around a vision for their common future that protects civilians, alleviates suffering, prevents further instability, addresses the root causes of the conflict and forges, at long last, a credible negotiated solution,” the Secretary-General concluded. It was so predictable but the UN is now telling the Syrians and the international society that they must unite around Syria's president (I accept, he doesn't use those words) so the conflict can end and we can finally send back those annoying refugees. And thus, Assad and Putin are the moral leaders in this world as are the UN. They are not. It is like saying that Hitler should be accepted, even by the Jews if that was the price to end a war. Assad can't be a sol...

Extreme right is not an answer as it kills

Christchurch attack: suspect had white-supremacist symbols on weapons For all those who think that extreme right is the solution, think again. New Zealand, a country without Muslim terrorism, still a mad white extremist (and some helpers) killed at least 49 Muslims who were praying in a mosque. The same happened a few years ago in Norway where another mad guy, it seems an inspiration for this one, killed many youngsters who wanted to discuss how to improve a multicultural society. Yes, there are Muslims who cause troubles and kill and not a normal person says we should not yet rid of those individuals. Still, these persons did exactly the same as those other terrorists they despise: they kill innocent people. These people use violence in the hope violence will return. They are the same type of people who hate others, even without being hurt by them. Yes, worldwide people suffer from Muslim extremists and thus people become angry, but in New Zealand, no-one suffered until this white ...

(13b) Extended period of Brexit negotiations

EU on no-deal Brexit motion: ' like Titanic voting for iceberg to move '. Many pro-EU British will celebrate that the negotiations can continue and that, according the British parliament, the UK can't leave the EU without a deal. However, they should not think that the British Empire still ruled and can set its conditions. Indeed, the article describes this. Also MEP Guy Verhofstadt is opposed to a period too long after 28/03/2019 because, without any directions what the UK wants, is such an extended negotiation period worthless and creates it only uncertainty for everyone and thus chaos. As he said, if only all UK noises would agree to point in the same directions, a good deal, both for the EU and UK could have been negotiating. Now there may be nothing left than anger and frustration. For instance, the European Medicine Agency (EMA) moved to Amsterdam. As long as the Brexit is not final, who will pay the rent of its previous headquarters in London? In case th...

Translating sign language into spoken language

The future looks bright, also for disabled people. Here an invention that will be welcomed by deaf people who can't speak and also by their friends and family. Indeed, communication between people who can speak and hear with people who can't will improve as sign language is converted into spoken language so people who don't understand sign language can understand deaf persons while the latter may understand slowly spoken sentences. A pity that certain people notice the progress and think their saviour needs to hurry or he's no longer needed. Still, they may consider artificial intelligence as the God they're waiting for although he's not yet perfect and we need to feed it more knowledge. And series such as Star Trek and others seems to have prophesied only a few decades ago the time we are starting to enter: one where we trust that computers will help to improve our lives. At least, if we teach computers to serve so we can rely on it and not distrust it. http...

Pollutants should go down

Humanity ‘at a crossroads’ as damage to planet poses growing risk to health, UN environment agency warns https://news.un.org/feed/view/en/story/2019/03/1034611 People call the youngsters who demand action against climate change but also against destruction of the environment stupid. Still, here another UN report that promises that, when humans don't change their behaviour, our health will be at risk. Therefore, as I continue to say: we need a cleaner industry. There is nothing against some CO2 production as this is needed to balance the O2 levels (and thus bio energy production such as burning wood should be possible) but more fossil fuel levels of CO2 harm us (now) while also the levels of plastics and other products in the environment harm, including our fertility (although fewer children may not be a bad thing) and that of animals and maybe even plants. Therefore, new and cleaner production of products is needed

International Women's day - Still needed

Image
Friday, 08/03/2019 (but also Saturday in some shops) was international women's day. Indeed, still an important day as long as women have fewer chances (in many countries around the world) and earn less for the same work. It is partially understandable that fewer women are at top positions because mainly men progressed in the past who don't want to sacrifice their own career in favour of women. However, the difference in wages is difficult to understand as one may assume that each company has at least guidelines what people earn in a certain position, certainly at the start of their career. But yes, in the private sector, men may ask quicker a (bigger) increase in wages or threaten to go to another company. If men are valued higher or are seen as more ambitious because they are more aggressive in their demand for higher wages, than indeed, companies will agree with higher wages for men than for women. But, as companies start to experience that women are equal and sometimes bet...
