(18g) Difference in treatment of white and black people

For many people, a surprise decision by an American court : white people involved in an armed standoff that ended with fire exchange with police officers were not convicted and are allowed to walk free while the police accepts the verdict. And thus it is no surprise that black people are angry. A white family won a court case The situation : Years ago the federal Bureau of Land Management (BLM) decided that cow owners should pay if they want that their animals graze on federal public lands while later grazing became forbidden on some land in order to protect an endangered desert tortoise. Indeed, in a world where animals are disappearing at high speed, sometimes humans have to accept some animals need protection. The problem is that the white family doesn't accept these conditions and let their cows graze on public lands. The worse is they defend this right with weapons and during another dispute including an armed standoff with police that lasted many days, one family ...

(12o) Haiti - Victim of natural disasters

Poor Haitians. One disaster after another. In 2010, thus only 6 years ago, a minimum of 100,000 people died during a terrible earthquake that hid the area of the capital Port-au-Prince while lots of the infrastructure but also many houses, including the presidential palace, were destroyed making many people homeless. Then, as a result of foreign UN soldiers who tried to help the people in the aftermath of the earthquake, cholera was imported into the country, killing about 10,000 people over the years after the earthquake. And now, probably as a consequence of climate change although still many people will deny, about 1,000 people died during the passage of a very strong hurricane, named Matthew while more buildings and infrastructure are damaged or completely destroyed, including a cathedral. In addition, as a result of flooding, it is very likely that the cholera epidemic will resurface and thus kill many more people over the coming weeks, months and maybe even ...

Getting in and out of public transport carriages

Image
In this article I will discuss how to enter or leave train or metro vehicles. People may wonder why this needs to be discussed as it seems very logic but apparently this is not for everyone. I will also briefly discuss how I think stations should be organised to make the flow of people more efficient. Getting out and in carriages Situation A : For me, the fastest and most efficient way to leave and enter carriages is that, after the transport stops, people outside the vehicles move to the sides of the doors of the carriages. Doing so, after the doors open people can leave the coaches by moving straight forward without people standing in front of them. If the space before the door is vacated, 2 or 3 people can leave at the same time by moving straightforward so the train or metro will be empty very quickly. Ones most people left the carriages, people outside can move from both sides into emptier carriages. Doing it this way, in only a little minutes, sometimes less than a minute...

(16d) Chilcot report and PM Blair

The Chilcot report is severe for Mr Blair about his decision to go to war against Saddam Hussein to destroy his WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) and topple the regime. The report says many errors were made, and certainly the unpreparedness of the post-war period was unacceptable. Still, I think PM Blair is sincere when he says he wanted to get rid of dictator Saddam Hussein and his WMD. Indeed, that dictator was pure evil, killing tens of thousands of his own people, including with the use of gas and starting wars with neighbours such as Iran and Kuwait, resulting in more than a million people killed while supporting terrorists outside his own country. In the end, people would have risen against him and this would probably have been with disastrous effects as people have done in Syria against their own mass murderer with disastrous effects. PM Blair and US President Bush Jr went to war because they claimed and still do that they wanted to destroy Saddam's WMD and liberate...

PM David Cameron - a political genius

PM Cameron, many called him a fool during the Scottish referendum because they don't understand him as they feared he may cause the split of the UK but 'No' won while many fear he may move the UK out the EU because of the referendum he promised the people. Yet, from a party-political view, he is a master in politics who managed to win an overall majority after 5 years in government with austerity as a central part of his policies while almost completely destroyed many of his opponents. First, while in opposition he managed that the Tories were again accepted after years of distrust by many British after years of Margaret Thatcher as prime minister and her merciless capitalism that destroyed a large part of British society although people celebrated they could buy (old) social houses. After PM Thatcher, over a decade of New Labour politics under PM Blair that embraced a changed society that accepted immigrants, gays, women, tried to destroy poverty, was less negat...
