Italian food, so nice, even when self prepared

Image
Today, I prepared something Italian. I loved it and therefore want to share it. Ingredients: Almond and pine nuts Green asparagus Mushrooms Wok mix Pasta: Mezzelune con verdure alla griglia Garlic Herbs Olive oil and spicy olive oil Let's start ... The pasta are mezzelune filled with basil, spinach and grilled vegetables including courgette and aubergine. I bought it prepared in a package and only needed to boil it for about 3-4 min but if you really like cooking, you may try to prepare it yourself (I won't). In addition, I decided there needed some extra vegetables so I can use the pasta spread over two days. Therefore, I cut some green asparagus in half and some mushrooms in small pieces. I also used mixed sprouting vegetables called "wok mix". Finally, I cut a garlic in small pieces. Some of the ingredients, i.e. "wok mix", mushrooms, green asparagus and garlic together with the pasta While I started heating the water, I added some ...

Animals seem to be clever

Image
Over the weekend newspapers (e.g. BBC and the Guardian ) published that scientists discovered that elephants seem to be able to understand humans pointing at something and they think elephants themselves can also point to something, using their trunk. It is quite fun to know that my favourite animals as a kid are for ones positively in the news and not only because they are killed. Elephants, since centuries used by humans as transport system and to carry heavy weights. I think it is quite unbelievable scientists spend years studying these animals before understanding they are able to understand human gestures (although the scientists expected something and therefore did this experiment) and thus they find them very intelligent animals, saying even our closest relatives (i.e. the apes) don't understand us pointing to something while domestic animals also understand us although it took thousands of years for those animals to learn (does this mean animals return and learn...

(07a) My Answers to Questions about what is the ideal economy (in the near future).

Image
During this crisis, many in power always talk about the need for a growing economy to end this crisis (such as the need for ever higher house prices). Here I will try to discuss why growth is not a necessity to have a healthy economy and a happy society. Maybe on the contrary. For instance, when every country on this planet has developed to the level of the West, how can the West then continue to be "better" than the rest (certainly when at the same time people in the West are losing what they saved and thus move in the direction of lesser-developed countries)? Most of what I write below is so obvious people reading this may wonder why they waste their time; still we forgot to implement them in life. Question : How does the ideal economy looks like in a graph (according me)? Answer : After a p eriod of almost continuous growth that accelerated over the past decades, in 2007-2008 this growth came to an abrupt end when the economic and financial crisis start...

A rice dish with spinach and cheese

Image
I prepared another vegetarian rice dish that I liked and thus want to share with whoever is interested. I cheated by using a tin of spicy spinach with cottage cheese (maybe you prefer to prepare that yourself) but I never can resist the feeling to do something more. And I know, it seems rice and potatoes should not be used for the same meal but I do as I like them together. Further, I don't eat meat thus I don't eat cholesterol and saturated fats and thus I think I am allowed some wrong combination. Ingredients Tin : Palak paneer (the above mentioned spicy spinach with cottage cheese). Other vegetables : Onion, Potato, Lentils (dry), Black-eyed beans (dry), Almond nuts, celery leaf. Herbs : garlic, ginger, salt and pepper, dry basil, vegetarian bouillon. Rice Olive oil Recipient Start with boiling the dry lentils and beans as they need some time to soften. I added some bouillon. In the meanwhile, clean some potatoes and cut them in pieces. After about 15 min of bo...

(18b) Coloured (and other) people in fashion

Here an article describing an unusual fashion show where it seems many people were very emotional afterwards as people had finally seen normal people during the fashion show. Indeed, as in ballet (see one of my previous articles), also in fashion is it preferred that most models look similar and that means long, thin and white without any smile or other expression on their face (so young and already using Botox?). The fashion show by designer Rick Owens seems to have touched a note as it became  the fashion show everyone talks about with its mix of different types of people: black and white, slim and bigger but all are probably strong personalities as otherwise they would not have dared to walk there, knowing they probably may be criticised by some people. And thus my previous point has been proven: being different by using other people than convention prescribes can make your show gets noticed. Of course, the n...

A quote I can agree with, sometimes

Yesterday I read a quote some people may call "wisdom". Here I write it down and I will discuss when I think it is correct but how wrong it can be at other moments, including our current time. Weak people revenge. Strong people forgive. Intelligent people ignore. In certain conditions this can be right when e.g. people make fun of you because you don't have the latest tablet and thus they think you are not cool. Weak people will indeed become angry because people make fun of them for not having the latest tablet while strong people will forgive after they provided strong arguments (sometimes including shouting and even violence) that the others were wrong to laugh at them while intelligent people may try to convince the others that they can use their less advanced tablet much more efficiently than those with the newest one but if people will continue making fun of them they will walk off and ignore (but people are forgiven to ignore, to some extend, the "...

(18a) Coloured people in ballet

Image
Eric Underwood wrote an article in the Guardian about the absence of many coloured people in ballet. I agree that classical ballet is still mainly danced by white people, certainly the corps of the ballet (sounds like a dead body). He claims that audiences still wants to see ballet in a dated way and are mainly interested in keeping tradition (not always a bad thing to do), a public that wants identical dancers because of the beauty the symmetry creates (I think it is also to prevent one person becomes the main focus in the group and compete with the principal dancers). But I disagree this is because of the public that wants to see only symmetry or only white people (indeed, many hope to see a powerful black person as himself). Of course, he is right about some people, but that is the same for certain members of other colours who claim certain dances (or music) should only be danced (or sung) by coloured and no by white people. Some coloured people even claim all white people can...
