A rice dish with spinach and cheese

Image
I prepared another vegetarian rice dish that I liked and thus want to share with whoever is interested. I cheated by using a tin of spicy spinach with cottage cheese (maybe you prefer to prepare that yourself) but I never can resist the feeling to do something more. And I know, it seems rice and potatoes should not be used for the same meal but I do as I like them together. Further, I don't eat meat thus I don't eat cholesterol and saturated fats and thus I think I am allowed some wrong combination. Ingredients Tin : Palak paneer (the above mentioned spicy spinach with cottage cheese). Other vegetables : Onion, Potato, Lentils (dry), Black-eyed beans (dry), Almond nuts, celery leaf. Herbs : garlic, ginger, salt and pepper, dry basil, vegetarian bouillon. Rice Olive oil Recipient Start with boiling the dry lentils and beans as they need some time to soften. I added some bouillon. In the meanwhile, clean some potatoes and cut them in pieces. After about 15 min of bo...

(18b) Coloured (and other) people in fashion

Here an article describing an unusual fashion show where it seems many people were very emotional afterwards as people had finally seen normal people during the fashion show. Indeed, as in ballet (see one of my previous articles), also in fashion is it preferred that most models look similar and that means long, thin and white without any smile or other expression on their face (so young and already using Botox?). The fashion show by designer Rick Owens seems to have touched a note as it became  the fashion show everyone talks about with its mix of different types of people: black and white, slim and bigger but all are probably strong personalities as otherwise they would not have dared to walk there, knowing they probably may be criticised by some people. And thus my previous point has been proven: being different by using other people than convention prescribes can make your show gets noticed. Of course, the n...

A quote I can agree with, sometimes

Yesterday I read a quote some people may call "wisdom". Here I write it down and I will discuss when I think it is correct but how wrong it can be at other moments, including our current time. Weak people revenge. Strong people forgive. Intelligent people ignore. In certain conditions this can be right when e.g. people make fun of you because you don't have the latest tablet and thus they think you are not cool. Weak people will indeed become angry because people make fun of them for not having the latest tablet while strong people will forgive after they provided strong arguments (sometimes including shouting and even violence) that the others were wrong to laugh at them while intelligent people may try to convince the others that they can use their less advanced tablet much more efficiently than those with the newest one but if people will continue making fun of them they will walk off and ignore (but people are forgiven to ignore, to some extend, the "...

(18a) Coloured people in ballet

Image
Eric Underwood wrote an article in the Guardian about the absence of many coloured people in ballet. I agree that classical ballet is still mainly danced by white people, certainly the corps of the ballet (sounds like a dead body). He claims that audiences still wants to see ballet in a dated way and are mainly interested in keeping tradition (not always a bad thing to do), a public that wants identical dancers because of the beauty the symmetry creates (I think it is also to prevent one person becomes the main focus in the group and compete with the principal dancers). But I disagree this is because of the public that wants to see only symmetry or only white people (indeed, many hope to see a powerful black person as himself). Of course, he is right about some people, but that is the same for certain members of other colours who claim certain dances (or music) should only be danced (or sung) by coloured and no by white people. Some coloured people even claim all white people can...

A simple vegetarian pasta with tomato sauce

Image
I just finished eating pasta, and as I think it was very nice, I will also share this recipient with those who may sometimes read my blog. Of course, only vegetables were used as I am vegetarian. As I am single, I describe what I used for one meal, but you can increase the size as you prefer. Ingredients : Almond nuts Onion Mushrooms Young fresh spinach leaves Tomato and grilled vegetables sauce Hot pepper Garlic Some herbs Parmesan cheese Pasta Recipient : Tomato sauce First, I cut half an onions in small pieces and four medium-sized mushrooms in four to six pieces (not too small), depending upon the original size of the mushrooms. I also cut a garlic and part of a hot pepper (I like it a little spicy) in small pieces. Finally, the almond nuts are cut in half so they are not too big as they can't be cut easily on a plate without making a mesh. Olive oil is added to a frying pan and placed above the gas fire. When sufficiently hot, I added first some pieces of a...

Syria

PM David Cameron lost the vote in Parliament to go to war against Syria after president al-Assad may have used chemical weapons against his own people and it seems the PM was even surprised a majority voted against the war. Now some MPs are calling for a harder party line to force every MP into following one line. Afterwards, some newspapers were ridiculing the PM, writing he lost authority, not only in his own party or country but worldwide as even the USA now praised their ally France but not the UK for wanting to go to war in Syria (how friends are changed whenever it suits power is quite impressive. And the US knows this hurts the UK that always wants to be known for their special relationship with the US). Still, the PM defends his right decision to ask Parliament. Indeed, should a decision about going to war depend on the opinion of one person as it can kill many? On the other hand, can any country accept people are killed by chemical weapons and leave that unpunished? Quite a...
